Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 1 TV Show Full Review

Two brand new characters in the story are Order 66 survivor Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati. The beginning of the series, with these two smashing through a New Republic ship like butter to free Morgana Elsbeth, is a classic Star Wars classic – it shows the power of the villains and narratively pushes the heroes straight into the fray Background. It’s a great introduction that creates great opportunities for the rest of the season.

In the first crawl, we learn that Ahsoka is looking for a map that can lead her to Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger, wherever they are after their disappearance at the end of Rebels. Rosario Dawson’s performance is extremely stable and measured given the character’s development over the years. Their clash with the HK-87 droids is a nice introduction to the kind of action we’ll see as the show begins. The lightsaber combat is fast-paced and frenetic, but deliberately filmed so that all of the action is easy to follow, a subtlety that can make or break a scene. And Ahsoka’s explosive escape is a joy, thanks in part to her banter with Huayang.

Bringing Huang into the story here is a smart move. The master lightsaber maker’s appearance in The Clone Wars gives him one of the most unique backstories of any character in Star Wars, let alone any droid, and it’s nice to see his wit and expertise with Jedi weaponry playing a big part in that will play. show. Additionally, including a droid companion with the voice of the phenomenal David Tennant is no easy feat. It’s all damn cute.

Seeing a freed Lothal in Live Action is a special moment, but seeing Clancy Brown reprise his role as Rider Freedom is even better. Sabine’s ceremonial departure for Lothal, and dipping and dodging on her fast bike while giving the proverbial middle finger to authority, is another near-perfect character introduction that fits the tone of Insurgents. At this point it’s clear that the series knows what it wants to be and understands what fans want from these beloved characters.

By far the strongest aspect of the show is the argument between Ahsoka and Sabine. The tension Dawson and Liu Bordizzo create is palpable and goes a long way in tying the series’ drama into the dynamic established in “Rebels.” Ahsoka’s abandonment of Sabine’s education has obviously hurt her deeply, and to see them return to a place where they can advance with mentorship at the end of a two-episode arc is heartwarming. It leaves a slight impression.

Ahsoka and Hera Syndulla’s visit to the Corellia Shipyard seems a bit routine at first, like one of the less interesting episodes of The Mandalorian. Spending time with Ahsoka and Hera is nice, but Peter Jacobson’s entire conversation with the shipyard officer proceeds in the most predictable way. You see the scam coming right away and it’s no surprise when dirt hits the fan.

This is one of the biggest differences between Ahsoka and The Mandalorian, at least judging by the first two episodes of Ahsoka: the series is actually fun, colorful, and vibrant, while Mando comes across as darker, gloomy, and serious. That doesn’t mean one is definitely better than the other – it’s too early to tell. But it’s cool that Ahsoka has a distinctive tone that captures the spirit and energy of the rebels.

Morgan, Baylan, and Shinn’s quest to use the Eye of Sion to track down Thrawn and restore him to power is an intriguing sign of things to come. Thrawn is one of the most intellectual and multi-layered villains in the entire Star Wars canon, if not the most intellectual. So far the series is already proving to be great, and with Thrawn and Ezra joining the fight, Ahsoka has a chance to become one of the best Star Wars series of all time.
