The movie starts out with an unclear and challenging conversation between real estate agents and the couple Will Grady and Summer Elswick in the Whitcomb address of the home they are getting ready to sell. In a speech titled “Succeeding in Real Estate” to a group of business people, Will Grady travels to a nearby hotel. His mother, Camille Grady, corrects her adult son’s attire and appearance while he practices the speech while coaching him through it. Will tries to reach Summer, but she doesn’t pick up. Camille shares her concern to show homes alone years ago and her late husband’s suggestion that she get over her fears at the post-speech mixer. Will searches the room for Summer, who is not there.
When Will enters his modernist home again, he discovers Summer dozing off on their bed. When Summer’s eyelids suddenly open, the dissonant music from “Angel of the Morning” stops. Once more, the pair fights. Will snoozes on the sofa. Will provides the other party with a ride and signs the paperwork the next morning. Returning to the for sale home, Summer trembles while using her phone and discovers a shed snakeskin. The rear door chime begins to play when an automobile approaches. Will asks his passenger if they can make a quick halt because he has gotten a text from Summer. By the time Will gets to Whitcomb in the evening, Summer’s bloody body is there, with a knife stuck in her pelvis.
